Every so often, a project comes along that’s a perfect mix of storytelling, technology, and creative problem-solving. I was lucky enough to be part of one with Bricolage Production Company for their escape room, “The Mind’s Eye.”

The project had been in the works since before 2020, and I was brought in to help bring the vision to life with full-room projection mapping and reactive lighting. The goal was ambitious: create a room that could completely transform as players moved through the story.

To make it happen, we mapped all four walls using four short-throw projectors and MadMapper. We also tucked addressable LED lighting around the space for ambient effects that reacted to the gameplay. All of this was coordinated to sync the video, light, and story triggers, making it feel like the room itself had a pulse.

This setup supported the beautiful narrative of helping Daedalus process the loss of his son, Icarus. The incredible visuals, designed by Shade Balderose, evolved as players progressed through the room’s emotional journey. The projection wasn’t just decoration—it was part of the story.

The final result was more than just a technical achievement; it created a unique, layered experience. We were honored when the room won a Golden Lock Award, with Room Escape Artist calling it “a trailblazing approach to full-room projection mapping.”

I’m so grateful to have worked with such a talented team. A huge thank you to Bricolage Production Company for their creative direction and to Shade Balderose for the beautiful, cinematic visuals. And most of all, thanks to everyone who has come out to play and support the room.

If you’re in or around Pittsburgh, I highly recommend checking it out.
